I've in no way reviewed a item right here before but I felt I truly had to this time.
Lengthy story created short- I am a cabinet maker and when I received my 18v DeWalt from Amazon (soon after waiting patiently for almost three weeks) it arrived with a wobble in the chuck. I don't mean I took a dial indicator to it to make positive it was ideal, I mean it was conveniently visible to the naked eye. If I had to drill a 1/16th hole in one thing this would not do an accurate job. So, I emailed Amazon and they kindly sent me a replacement drill which also arrived with a very wobbly chuck. Two in a row, I couldn't think it. I known as the DeWalt 800 quantity and they stated to take the drill to my local service center. When I did they took 1 appear at it and said "oh yeah, that's not correct, we'll put a new spindle in for you,". Two a great deal more weeks (with no drill) later I sent my intern to pick up the drill. It came back with a new chuck and a slightly unique wobble. I now regret purchasing a thing on the web that I would want to hold in my hand and examine initial. Positive, this drill would perform fine for shooting drywall screws in but I will need some thing better. For $200 I want a drill that is nearly perfect. 200 bucks is alot of capital.
So, what occurred to DeWalt? Have they cut expenses to meet larger demand? I purchased a 14.4v cordless DeWalt correct out of college and it worked awesome for years until it was stolen. In a pinch I purchased a 14.4v Ryobi which worked well for a year but ultimately the batteries stopped holding a very good charge. When that occurred I believed nicely, it is time to get one other DeWalt, but now I wish I hadn't.
I have had this drill for about six months and am rather happy with it. I am a homeowner so I cannot speak as to how this drill would function through all day use. For projects about my residence it has a lot of power though, like each other cordless tool I have implemented, it requirements a little significantly more time drilling/driving through tricky wood. If I want to drill by way of anything thick and difficult, I applied a beefier corded drill. So far, I have not noticed any of the battery life complications discussed by other reviewers.
I picked up a set of the Dewalt hex shank bits and have not noticed any slippage. The only time I have had a complaint with the drill was whereas using a hole saw to install locksets in two doors. Of the 4 holes, the bit slipped out of the chuck two instances. Once I reinserted the hole saw it went ideal on by means of the door. I do not know if I did not get the chuck tight enough or if the chuck just prefers the hex shank bits.
All in all a great drill. I can't imagine ever installing curtain rods, assembling bookcases, and so on. with a corded drill and/or screwdriver again!
